Dennis Orphal
The Society is sad to announce the death of one of our outstanding ballisticians, Dennis Orphal. For the majority of his career Dennis worked on a wide range of problems in terminal ballistics. He made a major contribution to the analysis and testing associated with ballistic missile defense lethality. Latterly, right up to the time of his death, he was working on advanced penetrator concepts. He was a member of the IBC and was a co-chair of the 20th ISB held in Miami in 2002. He was a founding member of HVIS. His significant contributions to terminal ballistics were recognised in the HVIS Distinguished Scientist Award in 2003.
